What`s Happening Around the Community...
COMMUNITY HOUSEHOLD CLEAN UP: SATURDAY, MAY 24th from 9am - 2pm SHARP! Hey neighbors! Your Marquis De Lorne Community Association is pleased to invite you to bring all your 'treasures' that you've been keeping in your garage or basement over the winter to the Community Hall parking lot (6 Copperstone Way SE - just down from 7-11) on Saturday, May 24th between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm sharp. Clean up your alleys, yards and local green spaces. The City of Calgary will have two packer trucks onsite to take your trash. As well, there will be an additional packer truck dedicated to organic yard waste material such as sod, trees, plants, etc. There will also be recycling services on site to take your metal, cardboard and electronic recycling. We will not be able to accept any household chemicals, car batteries, oil, propane tanks, paint, animal carcasses, or any other hazardous materials. This service is offered free to all residents. New MDLCA memberships will be available to purchase that day for the 2014/2015 year to give you an opportunity to support your Community Association. They are only $30/year/family and valid from June 1, 2014 through May 31, 2015. Thanks to The City of Calgary Animal & Bylaw Services and Waste & Recycling, Hopewell Residential and Foothills Disposal for their partnerships with us.
COPPERFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: The Copperfield K-4 school is proposed to be located on the site as shown on the attached diagram.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR COMMUNITY'S POLICE CONSTABLE: Now that warmer weather is here, please remember to close and lock windows, doors in your home, garage & vehicle. Every spring there is an increase in theft from vehicles as people leave vehicles unlocked or windows down. Often, once a thief is in the car, they will remove the garage door opener and enter homes through the door connecting to the home. As well, if you are a victim of crime (regardless of the circumstances like you left your vehicle unlocked or whatever), it is important that you report it. It helps identify crime trend in the community and helps secure additional resources for patrols, etc. You can report online and it is not an inconvenience to the police to take your report.
ALL SPRING PROGRAMS ARE UP FOR REGISTRATION: Summer is just around the corner (please?) so get yourself ready by joining in one of the programs starting in April. ORGAN & TISSUE DONATION REGISTRY IS NOW LIVE:
An exciting first for Albertans! You can now sign up to be an organ and/or tissue donor on MyHealth.Alberta.ca.
It’s important that you understand what it means to be a donor and how important your choice is. Tell your family and loved ones that you have signed up to be a donor. They will then be prepared to speak on your behalf.
NEW MDLCA MEMBERSHIP CARDS ARE IN! You can mail in the page from your Pathways newsletter, stop into or call the office during office hours or purchase one at any of our events. Memberships help with many things including: lighting of the rink through the winter (the rink has been in use since December), maintenance on our building, sponsorship of many events like Picnic in the Park, Movie In the Park, early-bird registrations for Halloween, Easter and Christmas parties, etc. MDLCA members will also receive a discounted building rental rate effective June 1, 2014 when our rental rates increase. They are only $30/year/household and we need your support.
GOOD FOOD BOX UPDATE: Next order deadline is coming up May 20th for delivery on May 30th. The Good Food Box program is run by Calgary's Community Kitchen Program and operates by buying fresh top quality produce directly from farmers and from wholesale clubs. The food is bought in bulk and dropped off at the warehouse. The boxes contain the maximum produce possible in them for the price. A small box is 20-25 pounds for $20; a medium box is 30-35 pounds for $25; a large box is 40-45 pounds for $30. Boxes must be ordered and paid for by the 'order by' date. The MDLCA will be unable to order any boxes that are not paid for by the 'order by' date.
